Finding gluten free fast food can be very hard but here is our gluten free guide to fast food to give you a head start. There are times that call for a little fast food; whether it be a late night road trip when nothing else is open, just a late (and boozy) night or a treat for the kids.

We have listed all the gluten free fast food items you could order under the title of each popular outlet, to keep things simple. Everything you read below is caveated with the fact that cross contamination is more likely to happen in kitchens that aren't staffed by professional chefs. Eat fast food sparingly and if you aren't sure, just don't eat it.

Please note that we enquired with McDonalds after learning that they might re-used oil in the french fries vat from vats that have contained gluten. This is what they said 'Thank you for your email. We can confirm that there is no gluten in the french fries or hash browns but cross contamination is possible. We would recommend that you inquire prior to purchase to ensure that the store cooks the products in a dedicated vat.' It is definitely worth asking when you order.

Why are french fries and hash browns gluten free?
We have been asked this question a few times now and it is worth clarifying that in order to make the french fries/chips and hash browns compliant as vegetarian, they are fried in a separate vat to meat and fish products. Good for us, in that it means they are also gluten free! There is of course still the chance of cross contamination so if you have to have fast food, always ask. It is also worth noting that this rule doesn't apply to all fast food stores especially small ones and as you will see below KFC.
